I have a little Kubota B 7100, 16 hp, 4WD and would like to get a single bottom mouldboard plow for it. What size can I use? Also would like a tiller, 40 or 42". Is this the right size? Thanks, Ed

You'd prefer a 12" moldboard; sometimes hard to find, so a 14" will do; no bigger. And 40 or 42" tiller will work fine. ....

Sandy soil, Art? You're kiddin'. A local engineer called it "Wilson clay loam"; most folks call it "black gumbo". Hard as a rock with big cracks when it's dry, and sticks to everything when it's wet, plows and tills beautifully when it's exactly the right moisture content, and grows crops very well if it gets enough water. ....

Thanks for the info Bird. I noticed that in some of your other posts, you mentiond using a potato plow, aka middle buster. Do you prefer that over a moldboard? I would like something that will do well in both previously tilled ground as well as sod. Thanks, Ed ....

Ed, the middle buster is the preferred plow for digging the potatoes or making trenches. The moldboard would be the preferred plow for breaking new ground, or even turning over previously cultivated ground. But I have a good middle buster and the only moldboard I have is none adjustable side to side (someone did some welding and made it from one of the old horse drawn plows), so I've used it a few times but it really isn't much good; would need to be moved to the right to work properly. And while the middle buster is not my favorite way to do it, I can sure tear up the ground with it, and get plenty deep, and then run over it with the tiler and get very good results. In other words, I sometimes make do with what I have instead of spending money for more implements. ....
